Hey, back again with some more items for MÖRK BORG! I love this game so much. It’s currently my favorite game of the ones I’m running for my players, and I love how doom-y and bleak the whole affair is. But MÖRK BORG isn’t what we’re here to talk about. We’re here to talk about the movie Mandy, directed by Panos Cosmatos.
This movie is a doom metal acid trip nearly from start to finishing. With a dark, brooding soundtrack punctuated by soft moments (much like the movie itself), and lots of gore, this is one of the most interesting films I’ve bore witness to in the past decade. Everything about it oozes metal, from the Black Skulls, to one of Red’s weapons, an aptly named crossbow called The Reaper. This movie is violent, weird, and filled with darkness. Even my name is inspired by this film. Something about the way the line “You exude a cosmic darkness.” resonated with me in some way. I’ve long been a fan of metal, but this is the first time I can truly say that there is a metal inspired movie.
In honor of the movie, I’ve decided to write up some item descriptions for some of the mystical artifacts shown in the movie, and both of Red’s weapons. Hope you enjoy!
The Horn of Abraxas - When blown, summons four otherworldly riders to do your bidding. First, however, they require a sacrifice of blood and copious amounts of drugs. The harder the task, the greater the tithe…
Tainted Blade of the Pale Knight - d6 damage one handed sword. Hits poison the victim for d4 damage each round until they perish.
“…from the abyssal lair.”
The Reaper - d8 crossbow. Fires barbed bolts that bleed the target for d4 damage each turn for d6 turns.
The Beast - d10 damage two handed axe. Whenever you slay a foe, you enter into a violent bloodrage, making your melee strikes deal an additional d4 damage until the end of combat. On a hit roll of 1, instead of breaking this weapon radiates vengeance, and all enemies must test morale.
